Lee Shapiro, MD, is a rheumatologist, a professor of medicine at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, as well as the director of the scleroderma clinic there. He is founder and Chief Medical Officer of the Steffens Scleroderma Foundation. He has been on the medical advisory board of the Scleroderma Foundation TriState for more than 30 years.

He was introduced to scleroderma by his mentors, Drs. Gerald Rodnan, Thomas Medsger, and Virginia Steen, and remains greatly indebted to them for all they have shared. His passion is for developing collaborative research efforts and finding novel ways of improving disease outcomes. He is recipient of Distinguished Physician Lifetime Achievement Award (2008) and Doctor of the Year Award (2016) from the National Scleroderma Foundation.
